What is jardiance ?
Jardiance (empagliflozin) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes, a condition in which the body does not properly use and store glucose (a type of sugar).
Jardiance works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose by the kidneys, which helps to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. It is typically taken once a day as a pill and is usually taken in combination with other medications and lifestyle changes (such as diet and exercise) to help manage blood sugar levels.
Jardiance is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause side effects such as genital yeast infections, urinary tract infections, and increased urination. It is important to follow the dosage and treatment plan prescribed by your healthcare provider and to talk to your provider if you experience any side effects.
