Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT)
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is a flagship program of the Government of India that aims to improve the infrastructure and services in urban areas of the country. Launched in 2015, AMRUT is implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and focuses on improving the quality of life in urban areas by addressing key challenges such as inadequate water supply, inadequate sewage and drainage systems, and inadequate transport systems.
AMRUT is implemented in 500 cities and towns in India, with the goal of providing basic infrastructure and services to urban residents and improving the liveability of these cities and towns. It includes a range of initiatives and programs, including the expansion of water supply and sewage systems, the development of public transport systems, and the construction of pedestrian-friendly streets and footpaths.
AMRUT is implemented through a combination of central and state government funding, with the states contributing a share of the funds and the central government providing the balance. It is also implemented in partnership with local authorities and other stakeholders, including urban local bodies, private sector firms, and civil society organizations.
Overall, AMRUT is intended to help improve the infrastructure and services in urban areas of India and to create more livable and sustainable cities and towns.
