World Veterinary Day : Last Saturday Of April

World Veterinary Day is an annual event that takes place on the last Saturday of April to recognize and celebrate the important role that veterinarians play in animal health and welfare, public health, and the environment. World Veterinary Day of the year 2023 will be celebrated on 29 April .

The day was first established in 2000 by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to raise awareness of the contributions of veterinarians to society.

Each year, World Veterinary Day has a different theme, and events are organized around the world to promote the theme and highlight the work of veterinarians. Some of the past themes of World Veterinary Day have included:

  • 2022: Antimicrobial Resistance – from Awareness to Action
  • 2021: The Veterinarian Response to the COVID-19 Crisis

  • 2018: The Role of the Veterinary Profession in Sustainable Development to Improve Livelihoods, Food Security, and Safety

On World Veterinary Day, people are encouraged to thank and appreciate their local veterinarians for their hard work and dedication to animal health and welfare. The day also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of veterinary medicine and the role of veterinarians in keeping animals and humans healthy.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in collaboration with Veterinary Council of India is going to celebrate World Veterinary Day- 2023 on 29thApril, 2023 at New Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan,  New Delhi.
