Today in New Delhi, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, inaugurated the ASEAN-India Millet Festival. The event saw the presence of Ministers of States for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Kailash Choudhary and Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, along with the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Manoj Ahuja. Addressing the delegates from India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam attending the festival.

Aligned with the International Year of Millets 2023 , the festival aims to raise awareness and create a larger market for millet and millet-based products. The festival will run until December 15, 2023. It follows a previous festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, held from November 22 to 26, 2023.

On the second day of the festival, a Business-to-Business (B2B) meeting organized by APEDA is set to take place. This meeting serves as a platform for businesses from India and ASEAN member states involved in trading millets and millet-based products to interact. The goal is to encourage collaboration and explore commercial opportunities across borders. This event is particularly significant for startups and farmer-led organizations, allowing them to assess the potential appeal and viability of their products for an international audience.
