  • Conjunctions वे शब्द हैं जिनका उपयोग एक ही वाक्य में शब्दों को जोड़ने के लिए किया जाता है।
    • words को जोड़ने के लिए (Ram and Shyam will Come)
    • sentences को जोड़ने के लिए (She likes tea, and he prefers coffee)
    • Phrases को जोड़ने के लिए (Peoples’s ignorance and Population Explosion are two inter related problems)
    • clauses को जोड़ने के लिए (She said that she would come)
  • And – और
  • as far as – जंहा तक
  • as if – मानो……. कि
  • Although – हालांकि / यद्यपि
  • As though – मानो
  • As ………  So – जैसा …… वैसा
  • As ……. As  – इतना …… जितना
  • As well as  – साथ ही साथ
  • As ….  – क्युकी ….. इसीलिए
  • As Soon As  – जैसे ही …….. वैसे ही
  • After – के बाद

1. Coordinating Conjunctions

These conjunctions join elements of equal grammatical rank in a sentence, such as two independent clauses, words, or phrases.

  • Examples: and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet (often remembered by the acronym FANBOYS).

Examples in sentences:

  • “She likes tea, and he prefers coffee.”
  • “I wanted to go to the park, but it started raining.”

2. Subordinating Conjunctions

These conjunctions join an independent clause with a dependent (or subordinate) clause. Subordinating conjunctions indicate a relationship of time, cause, contrast, or condition between the two clauses.

  • Examples: because, although, since, unless, while, after, before, if, as, when, even though, though.

3. Correlative Conjunctions

Correlative conjunctions work in pairs to join equal grammatical items (words, phrases, or clauses). They always appear together.

  • Examples: both…and, either…or, neither…nor, not only…but also, whether…or.
