• Oil Separator – Removes and recycles oil mist from the refrigerant in the discharge line to prevent oil loss and maintain compressor lubrication.
  • High-velocity refrigerant-oil mixture enters the oil separator from the discharge line.
  • The oil-free refrigerant exits toward the condenser.
  • Separated oil is returned to the compressor crankcase via a float valve or oil return line.
  • Types of Oil Separators:
    • Mechanical (Baffle type) → Uses metal plates to slow flow & separate oil.
    • Coalescing filter type → Uses fine mesh filters to capture tiny oil droplets.
    • Centrifugal type → Spins refrigerant to force oil separation.
  • Benefits:
✔ Prevents oil accumulation in the system.
    ✔ Improves heat exchanger efficiency.
    ✔ Extends compressor life.
